We Didn't Build a Faster Survey. We Built Better Decision Intelligence

Quant research has always had two problems everyone knows about: it's expensive and it's slow.

Then AI arrived and promised to fix both. Synthetic respondents. Instant fieldwork. Fraction of the cost. The survey stays exactly the same: the methodology, the stimulus, the output format. The humans are just replaced with AI-generated ones.

Faster. Cheaper. And still delivering a snapshot but at arguably lower quality.

Because the problem with quant was never really the humans. It was the design philosophy. Survey research was built to measure customers: capture a snapshot, aggregate it, report it. Useful. But not the same thing as helping you make the right decision at decision pace.

The methods themselves were shaped around human limitations. Survey length capped by respondent fatigue. Task complexity limited by attention. Sample size constrained by cost and time. Conjoint, regression, segmentation, scenario simulation: good techniques, rigorous and proven. But the infrastructure they ran on was never equal to what they were capable of.

Replicating a cheaper version of an already challenged system doesn't close that gap. It amplifies it.

At Verve, we started from a different question entirely.

  • Not: how do we field this methodology faster and cheaper?

  • But: what does this decision actually need?

There is no point being directionally correct. Your teams are smart enough to get there without another expensive tool. Our north star is decisions of consequence.  This means valid, reliable insight available at the moment the decision needs it, not the moment the fieldwork allows it.

Verve Intelligent Personas and Simulations (VIPS) are behavioural simulations built from client-specific data. They are quantitatively and qualitatively validated, incorporating brand knowledge, category signals, and cultural nuance. Constantly updated to reflect now, not only what was. Calibrated against real human responses to reproduce known outcomes with more than 90% quantitative predictive validity.

VIPS are not synthetic respondents completing a survey. They are representations of a dynamic, contextually rich audience that carries genuine intelligence about how your specific customers think, choose, and behave. And because simulations don't fatigue, don't satisfice at question 13, and can hold complexity across hundreds of tasks, the methods can finally run the way they were theoretically designed to.

With VIPS, four established quantitative methods get to do what they were always capable of.

Segmentation that doesn't stagnate. Distinct customer groups grounded in the behavioural and cultural reality of your market, always updated. Not artefacts of a methodology. Actual intelligence. Goodbye 200-page PPT decks.

Regression that arrives with its interpretation already attached. The factors driving consideration, loyalty, and purchase intent, understood within the evolving contextual layer customers actually live in today. The numbers and the context of today, finally evolving together.

Conjoint run on an audience that already understands your category and your brand. Utility scores that reflect how these specific customer archetypes actually make decisions, not how AI-generated generics respond to a stimulus they have no relationship with.

Scenario simulation for the question every CMO is actually asking: what happens if? A competitor enters. Positioning shifts. Sustainability becomes a primary purchase driver. Modelled on a validated behavioural audience, not demographic proxies and spreadsheet assumptions.

None of this works without human truth at its foundation. The validity and contextual depth of VIPS is built on research gathered carefully, respectfully, and with genuine fidelity to human behaviour. That doesn't change. What changes is how we get to that truth and what we can do with it.

Unshackled from the constraints of how that truth has always had to be accessed, we can step into something new. Decision-grade quantitative precision, embedded in the context of right now, available when the decision needs it.

The past was laborious by necessity. The future doesn't have to be.

This is the first in Verve's Quant with VIPS series. The four articles that follow each explore a methodological unlock: segmentation, regression, conjoint, and scenario simulation. Not as techniques. As decision tools.
